Check a food hygiene rating
Look up the official Food Hygiene Rating of any food business in England, Wales or Northern Ireland — including your own. Data comes live from the Food Standards Agency.
How the ratings work
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme gives a score from 0 (urgent improvement necessary) to 5 (very good). Officers look at food handling, the condition of the premises, and confidence in management — how well safety is documented and supervised. The Food Standards Agency’s guidance for businesses explains that scheme. A result that is not a number from 0 to 5 is a status returned by the ratings service, such as awaiting inspection, exempt, or Pass. It is not a 0–5 score.
What this lookup does not do
The page shows the rating the Food Standards Agency currently publishes for a name you type. It does not inspect the kitchen, does not check that records are complete, and does not guarantee a rating at the next visit. A result on this page is not a compliance certificate.
What happens to the name you type
The name is sent to the Food Standards Agency ratings API so this page can show public records. It is also in this page’s address, so anyone with the link can see the search. Localyn does not create an account from the search and does not store the name as a customer record.
Read how a rating moves, how to prepare for an inspection, or print the inspection checklist. The same lookup is linked from the restaurants and coffee shops pages.
